The Red Bull Air Race 2014

Today, world champion pilot Paul Bonhomme (UK) won again on this year's Red Bull Air Race!

The Red Bull Air Race was created to challenge the ability of the world's best pilots using aerobatic air crafts. The sky race tests not only their speed but also their precision and skill by maneuvering on especially designed obstacle course set usually near the beach which the pilots would navigate at high speeds.

The International Red Bull Air Race began more than 10 years ago. It came to the UAE in 2005, both locals and expats excitedly await for this annual event. People come with their whole family to gather so huge crowds would stretch along the length of corniche beach. Its good that it is always scheduled during the beginning of the year when the weather is still tolerable and before summer starts.

For the past 3years the red bull  air race were cancelled, and so when it was announced that the pilots will be back in the corniche sky to perform this February, the people were very excited.

For almost 2 hours we were patiently watching the sky along with thousands of people waiting for the race. We kept looking up and finally saw 3 dots slowly coming down from the sky. At 3:30 this afternoon, 4 parachuters jumped out of nowhere from the sky and landed in the middle of the beach. 

There were around 8-9 participants in the race, they probably took off from Mina Port based on their flying directions. You could first hear the distant roar of their engines, then it got louder and louder as they came nearer the balloon course in the beach in front of us where they were suppose to navigate into.

All in all it was exciting to watch them zoom past us one by one with their engine smoke trailing behind them.

2014 took place a while ago in corniche, British Paul Bonhomme won again, his third in a row.
